When you look at your dog’s food label, you'll notice two types of numbers: “Dry Matter” and “As Fed.” The “Dry Matter” numbers strip out the water, giving you a clear picture of the actual nutrients like protein, fat, and fiber that your dog is getting. In contrast, the “As Fed” numbers include the moisture content, which is important because water plays a key role in keeping your dog’s digestion running smoothly and helps maintain hydration.

How should I store Maw&Paw food when it arrives?

Your meals arrive frozen in insulated packaging. Place them in the freezer as soon as possible. You can move a few containers to the fridge if you plan to serve them the next day.

How do I thaw the food before serving?

We recommend placing a 16 oz container in the refrigerator for at least 12 hours before feeding. For the best texture and taste, thawing overnight is ideal. If you’re short on time, you can run the sealed container under cold water for a quicker thaw.

How long does thawed food stay fresh?

Once thawed, your dog’s food stays fresh in the fridge for up to four days. If left at room temperature for more than two hours (or one hour in hot weather), discard it for safety.

How much should I feed my dog?

When switching from kibble or other brands, gradually mix Maw & Paw into your dog’s current food over 10 days. Start with 25% Maw&Paw and increase daily until your dog is fully transitioned. This helps their digestive system adjust smoothly.

Can I heat the food before serving?

Yes, but gently. Warm the thawed food slightly in a water bath or let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes. Avoid microwaving directly to preserve nutrients and texture.

How is Maw&Paw food different from other fresh dog foods?

We use organic produce, pasture-raised meats, and gentle cooking methods to preserve nutrients and flavor. Every meal is handcrafted in small batches in our Orange County kitchen, it’s food you could eat yourself (but your dog will love more).
